Mother Room's debut LP, Scorched, is out in nearly two weeks and our friends at Recommended Listen just premiered the music video for "Sin". The video was shot and edited by sole-member of the band, James Meuleners in the hills of San Diego, and serves as a pretty fitting visual to not just the song, but the entire record.
Recommended Listen described the video as "colorless and provocatively disturbing", and of the song, "soaked in a bipolar whirring of doom and eerie release". Check it out below:

Today we are ecstatic to announce the first entry in a new, and ongoing reissue series – Koji's Some Small Way EP! The reissue will be released on July 15th, and marks the first time Some Small Way will be available on vinyl. Those of you that know and follow Koji, know that the EP was initially issued by Run For Cover Records in 2010 on CD and digital formats, and that it's a really special set of songs that found him embracing the upbeat indie-rock of Superchunk and Ted Leo over the quiet acoustics of his past releases. This was actually his first release to feature a full-band.
Over the course of Some Small Way’s five tracks, Koji's penchant for dynamic song-writing and engrossing lyrical content was fully realized with the help of long-time collaborators Chris Sigda, Jim Tomlinson, Dave Goletz, Willie Rose, and on the final song, Into It. Over It.’s Evan Weiss. It's one of our favorite Koji releases here, and a great starting point for anyone curious.
Vinyl will be in hand within the next two to three weeks, and shipping at least a week ahead of the July 1st release date.
All purchases include an instant digital download of the release, with two live acoustic bonus tracks to be delivered to your inbox by the release date.

Last week we introduced you to James Meuleners's Mother Room, and a song that's been floating around the web for a while, "Whole" – this week we have some more details:
Firstly, we're excited to officially announce Mother Room's debut album, Scorched. The record will available worldwide on June 3rd on a limited edition cassette tape, and your choice of digital download formats. Cassette editions will be pressed on red shells, and come packaged in a Five-Panel J Card, and black case.
In the vein of Dirty Beaches and Forest Swords, Scorched finds Meuleners fusing elements of drone and noise with gothic, and at times even pop intonations into swelling suites of disorienting distortion. Scorched was recorded almost entirely by Meuleners, and will serve as his debut release as Mother Room. Scorched is currently available for pre-order on cassette tape, digital download, and a cassette tape/ zine bundle which includes a a 10 page zine of gorgeous photographs taken by James.
In addition, our friends at The Bay Bridged premiered a new track off the upcoming Scorched LP, "Debt Collector". Not only is it one of the most song based tracks on the record, but The Bay Bridged calls it, "a dark and enthralling song that will leave you aching for just a bit more," and of the upcoming LP "a refreshing and absolutely captivating piece of music."

Today, I could not be more proud to introduce you to the newest members of The Native Sound family, Mother Room, and Vow.
Hailing from Oakland, California, Mother Room is the brainchild of James Meuleners. Formed as a lo-fi bedroom project last October, Mother Room has since morphed into monster of a solo project whose debut LP – out this Spring, details TBA – is a challenging set of experimental drone movements teeming with atmospheric and nomadic undercurrents.
The upcoming LP was recorded almost entirely by Meuleners, and will serve as his debut release as Mother Room. Look out for more details, pre-orders, and tour dates in the coming weeks.
For now, listen to “Whole” off the forthcoming LP:
Also from California – this time, Los Angeles – is Vow. Consisting of vocalist Julia Blake, and instrumentalist Andrew Thomas, Vow have been known to dance along the genre lines of synth-pop, dream-pop, dark wave and post punk. Driven by drum machines and rich bass lines, Julia's soulful, and melodic alto vocals ooze on top of the analog pulsing synths and dreamy pads.
Vow will follow their outstanding self-released Make Me Young 7"EP with a second EP this summer via The Native Sound. The upcoming release will find the band transition from the darker textures of their debut, to more Cocteau Twins-inspired dynamics, implementing chorus-drenched guitars/bass, and palpable pop-informed vocal melodies. As with their debut, the EP will again feature Touché Amoré guitarist, and one-half of Andrew's ambient guitar duo, Wife, Nick Steinhardt on guitar. Steinhardt, who interestingly enough introduced Andrew and Julia to each other, will also take charge of all visual aspects relating to the band's upcoming EP.
More details will be available in the coming months, but for now, you can purchase/ stream their Make Me Young 7"EP here, listen to Julia sing on Touché Amoré’s “Blue Angels” here, and check out Andrew’s other project Wife here.
Here’s a sample of what to expect with “Palm” off the upcoming EP:
