Drowse Premiere "Memory" At Tiny Mixtapes

Posted on July 13th, 2016

Listen to Drowse's new single "Memory" streaming now at Tiny Mixtapes!

"With subtly dark over-tones, that are equally light in composure and composition, Drowse’s newest offering to listeners is simply: “Memory.” Like a recollection chamber in an acoustic guitar, thundering, distant knocking rhythms a beat throughout the harmonized and layered vocals explaining the destiny of “Memory.” Backed by both aggressive and serene string-plucking, an echoing signal calls between the body and speaker, haloing a mirage before listeners of something feint in thought, but powerful in emotion."

Drowse to Release 'Memory Bed' EP; "Break" Streaming at Spin

Posted on June 22nd, 2016

Today we get to announce a new addition to the family, Kyle Bates (aka Drowse). Some of you might recognize his name from the credits in Miserable's 'Uncontrollable' LP – he co-wrote "Stay Cold" and "Salt Water". His first release for The Native Sound will be the 'Memory Bed' EP, whose first single "Break" is now streaming at Spin!

Following an EP and LP, "Memory Bed" was largely written and recorded using one microphone, a laptop and an acoustic guitar during a Summer spent working in Zamora, Spain. While traveling, Bates found himself returning to the dark sounds from around his home for inspiration--music of the Pacific Northwest such as Grouper, Mount Eerie, Velvet Cacoon, and Unwound. Organs and synths ooze from crackling guitars, noise groans in the distance and swallows voices; the sound mirrors the feeling of wandering unfamiliar landscapes, both outside and internally. 'Memory Bed' will be released on limited edition cassette tapes, as well as digitally.

Private Press 005: Planning For Burial – As A Lover; Streaming at Noisey

Posted on June 15th, 2016

Our friends at Noisey just premiered Planning For Burial's latest single, "As A Lover", and the latest entry in our Private Press series. According to Noisey, the song "sees creator Thom Wasluck embrace his love of New Order and crank up the AC to churn out some seriously cold, poppy vibes". It's a great song and a fairly different direction for what we're used to seeing from the band.

Pressed on made-to-order hand-numbered square 7” lathes, “As A Lover” will be on sale for a one week period. At the end of that week we will press the exact amount ordered, and that’s it. No repressing ever. This is your only chance to ever own this 7”, so if you want it, order by June 21st. All orders should ship about three weeks later.

O.C.D. to Release 'Growth' EP; Listen to "I Don't Despise You" At New Noise

Posted on June 7th, 2016

We're so excited to announce that O.C.D. have joined The Native Sound, and that we'll be releasing their debut EP, "Growth". The EP features the song "I Don't Despise You", now streaming at New Noise!

Based in Oakland, O.C.D. are a band that bends genres – fusing elements of bossa nova and latin jazz with indie rock, and an all encompassing spirit of DIY punk. Over the course of six tracks the band rips through songs of love, failed relationships, and the shedding of skin. Aptly titled, “Growth” is an EP about change. Growing into something different from what you thought you would, or were expected to. It’s a curious place for a band to start, but one that feels right for O.C.D. “Growth” will be released July 22 on limited edition cassette tapes and digital formats.
